Design Museum Kensington
The Design Museum has published a free guide to reducing the environmental impact of design and exhibitions, offering practical tools for professionals.
Temporary exhibitions and displays are inherently wasteful, and the guide aims to help industry professionals understand the scale of the problem and provide guidance on minimizing the environmental impact of their projects.
The museum used its 2021-2022 exhibition, Waste Age: What Can Design Do?, as a case study and collaborated with external consultants to develop practical tools and tips. These resources are intended to help art and design professionals make informed decisions about processes and materials to minimize the environmental footprint of their projects.
The Design Museum has been using the tools in the guide to explore ways to reduce the environmental impact of its own exhibitions and to measure their CO2e emissions. This data is then used to analyze trends, inform future decisions on materials and content, and identify areas where further improvements are needed.
Many professionals worldwide have been utilizing the guide, which is now available in the six official UN languages. Find out more on the Design Museum Website.
