Royal Albert Hall
The Royal Albert Hall (RAH) is focused on upgrading their Grade I listed Victorian building with changes to their lights, heating and ventilation systems.
With an ambitious net-zero by 2040 target, the RAH is working hard behind the scenes as well! Split recycling bins have been introduced in staff offices, office furniture is being proactively recycled, and there has been a 65% reduction in the number of desk printers. The staff Sustainability Group is working on a number of initiatives to change Hall’s working culture, including small but mighty changes, like the introduction of Meat-Free-Mondays in the staff canteen.
The Royal Albert Hall is extending sustainable practices into partnerships, contracts and engagements with other businesses too. For example, they have introduced a Green Rider to encourage external promoters to reduce the number of lorries travelling with equipment and dispose of show-related waste through pre-approved recycling companies. They are also encouraging the re-allocation or composting unopened drinks and uneaten food where possible.
Sustainable procurement is another way that the RAH is committed to their net-zero target, including the adoption of the South Ken ZEN+ Supply Chain Charter.
