The Science Museum is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from travel through a comprehensive sustainable business travel policy for staff.

This policy encourages staff to use public transport over private options - both in their commuting and in their business travel.  The museum have incorporated emissions data-capture into a central travel booking system, helping employees select the most eco-friendly travel methods.

The shift to flexible working practices, accelerated by the coronavirus pandemic, has also decreased the need for travel between sites. Additionally, a cycle-to-work scheme has been introduced to support staff who elect to commute by bike.

Sustainability efforts extend to the museum's infrastructure as well: Dedicated electric vehicle (EV) charging points have been installed outside their new collections-management facility, complementing existing EV provision at their Science and Innovation Park in Wiltshire.

Recycled plastic road materials are also being used for access roads and service yards, enhancing drainage and further reducing carbon emissions.
