As part of the 2024 exhibition at Kensington Palace, Untold Lives: A Palace at Work, the project team is auditing the carbon emissions involved in staging the exhibition, from the transport miles of loan items to the CO2 emissions that come from producing  exhibition materials.

Kensington Palace is working hard to minimize the inherently wasteful elements of temporary exhibitions through re-use, recycling, careful material selection, and actively designing to reduce waste. They have built a large stock of modular showcases, label stands, AV kits, and lighting, and seek to reuse, repurpose, and recycle wherever possible.

Drawing on expertise from the museum sector, the exhibition team is using the Design Museum’s ToolKit for recording data, and Untold Lives will serve as a benchmark year from which they aim to improve.

This is part of Historic Royal Palace's 2024-2027 Action Plan, part of which looks to improve their data collection to measure their progress more accurately.
